Test conditions and notes14
- 1. All parameters NOT specially mentioned are measured at 230VAC input, rated current and 25℃ of ambient temperature.
- 2. De-rating may be need under low input voltages. Please refer to “STATIC CHARACTERISTIC” sections for details.
- 3. Ripple & noise are measured at 20MHz of bandwidth by using a 12” twisted pair-wire terminated with a 0.1uF & 47uF parallel capacitor.
- 4. Tolerance: includes set up tolerance, line regulation and load regulation.
- 5. Length of set up time is measured at first cold start. Turning ON/OFF the driver may lead to increase of the set up time.
- 6. Flicker is measured at full load with the light source provided by MEAN WELL.
- 7. To fulfill requirement of the latest ErP regulation for lighting fixtures, this LED driver can only be used behind a switch without permanently connected to the mains.
- 8. The driver is considered as a component that will be operated in combination with final equipment. Since EMC performance will be affected by the complete installation, the final equipment manufacturers must re-qualify EMC Directive on the complete installation again. (as available on https://www.meanwell.com//Upload/PDF/EMI_statement_en.pdf)
- 9. The ambient temperature de-rating of 3.5℃/1000m with fanless models and 5℃/1000m with fan models for operating altitude higher than 2000m(6500ft).
- 10. This series meets the typical life expectancy of >50,000 hours of operation when Tcase, particularly tc point (or TMP, per DLC), is about 75℃ or less.
- 11. For XLC-S series: RCM is on a voluntary basis. Non IC classification Independent LED control gear is not suitable for residential installations. For XLC(except -S) series: RCM is on a voluntary basis and meets relevant IEC or AS/NZS standards complying with AS/NZS 4417.1.
- 12. Products sourced from the Americas regions may not have the CCC/PSE/BIS/KC logo. Please contact your MEAN WELL sales for more information.

FAQ
Can the XLC-40-H-SN power LED downlights with the output current programmed via NFC and cable strain relief included?
Yes, the XLC-40-H-SN combines NFC current setting with a built-in strain-relief fitting. You can program the drive current anywhere in the 0.6–1.4A range using a compatible NFC device, and the strain-relief fitting secures the output cable mechanically. This makes it convenient for enclosed downlight installations where the driver is not easily accessible after fitting.
Is the XLC-40-H-SN suitable for driving LED arrays in illuminated architectural or cove lighting?
The XLC-40-H-SN can power LED arrays for cove or architectural lighting where constant current drive is required. Its 40W output at 1050mA with a 9–54V CC range covers a broad range of LED configurations, and the NFC-adjustable current allows fine-tuning without opening or rewiring the fixture after installation.
Can the XLC-40-H-SN be used in studio or broadcast lighting where flicker must be avoided?
The XLC-40-H-SN is specified as flicker-free (PstLM ≤ 1, SVM ≤ 0.4), making it suitable for studio or broadcast environments where camera-visible flicker is unacceptable. It operates at 1050mA constant current across a 9–54V CC range, and its Class II, PFC-compliant design meets the power quality requirements common in professional lighting infrastructure.
What is the difference between the XLC-40-H-N and the XLC-40-H-SN?
The XLC-40-H-N and XLC-40-H-SN are both 40W, 1050mA NFC current-programmable drivers with the same 9–54V CC range, input range, and certifications. The XLC-40-H-SN adds a strain-relief cable fitting to the housing, providing mechanical cable retention. Both share the 147 × 40 × 32 mm form factor.
What LED array voltage range does the XLC-40-H-SN support?
The XLC-40-H-SN operates as a constant current driver with a CC output voltage range of 9–54V. LED strings with series forward voltages summing between 9V and 54V are compatible at the selected output current. The exact number of LEDs per string depends on the individual forward voltage of your specific LEDs — always verify Vf before sizing the string.
Is the XLC-40-H-SN rated for built-in installation in enclosed luminaires?
Yes, the XLC-40-H-SN is designed for built-in installation inside a luminaire or protective enclosure. It operates from -25°C to +90°C, which covers the elevated ambient temperatures inside enclosed ceiling fixtures. It does not have an IP rating for moisture exposure and should be used in dry or sheltered environments.
